Welcome to the memorial page for

Steve Sheridan

June 30, 2015

Steve Sheridan, 67, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at La Grande Post Acute Rehabilitation Center in La Grande, Oregon with family by his side after battling  against a brain tumor.

Stephen Francis was born on August 22, 1947 in Melrose, Massachutes to Francis Joseph and Miriam Gwenieve (Doucett) Sheridan Jr. He was raised in Massachutes and graduated from Melrose High School in 1965. After graduation, Steve served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1971.

Following his stint in the service, Steve made his way to live in Halfway, Oregon. He worked as a tree thinner for the Forest Service and built his home on Clear Creek just outside of Halfway.  Steve also built a little cabin on that same property near the creek,  entirely by hand, never using a power tool.

In December of 1990 Steve married Sherry Sue in Reno, Nevada. They made their home in Halfway, Oregon. Steve was an operator for local #701 - Operating Engineers Union where he spent most of his time working out of the Eugene/Springfield, Oregon area. He also worked a gold mine in Halfway and on the Alaska pipeline.

Steve loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, and anything having to do with his yard and garden. He grew a beautiful garden each year and canned all kinds of fruits and vegetables. Steve took pleasure in making wine with his friends and doing the taste testing to make sure it was just right. Steve will also be so remembered for his awesome orange 1981 Ford pick-up truck and his true spirit of lending a hand to others whether it be tilling a garden, pulling a hive of bees from a house, sharing a smile or a story.

Steve is survived by his wife Sherry Sue; his daughters Kandice and Susan; sons Mike, Richard, Patrick; brothers Eddie, Kenneth and Mark; sisters Sue and Janet and his mother Mim and also by grandchildren Brycen, Alica, Michael and Amanda.

He was preceded in death by his father Frances and son Eric; brother-in-law Tom Schroeder.

Steve's wishes were that there not be a formal service for him, but that his remains be placed at a favorite spot in the Halfway area, later this fall. Plans to place his ashes will be made in the fall. For those who wish to make a memorial donation in memory of Steve, the family suggests it be made to the charity of your choice through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Services PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834.
