Nellie Edwards, a longtime resident of Baker City, died January 2, 2017 at Meadowbrook Place.  A Celebration of Nellie's Life will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 ~ 4 p.m. at the Community Connection Senior Center - 2810 Cedar Street in Baker City, Oregon

Nellie was born on January 4, 1929 in Baker Valley to Adrain and Myrtle Perkins. They lived on a ranch near Baldock Slough, close to the old stage stop. She went to a small country school near there. Nellie graduated from Baker High School in 1946.

Nellie and Paul Edwards were married April 6, 1947 in Baker. They were married for 55 years until Paul passed away in October of 2002. They enjoyed playing cards, camping, water-skiing and swimming in the Snake River with many of their friends and family. She enjoyed watching her grandkids and great grandkids participating in sports.

Nellie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and active in the Christian Women’s Club of which she helped start. She was proud that her great grandfather EP Perkins (who was the wagon master) along with his four brothers, brought the first wagon train to Baker Valley from Missouri. On average the Perkins Wagon train would travel 13 to 15 miles per day for 118 days and successfully brought a total of four wagon trains to Baker Valley.

On the last trip they brought their parents and all settled in Baker Valley. A picture of the five brothers is along the Leo Alder Pathway.

Nellie is survived by her daughter Pauline and her husband Danny Evans of Baker City, OR; son Ken and his wife Ruth Edwards of Lakeview, OR; brother Don Perkins of Sumpter, OR; grandkids Wade and his wife Vicki Evans of Pendleton, OR, Curt Evans of Hermiston, OR, Justin Edwards of Vancouver, WA, Sarah and her husband Shawn Layng of Aberdeen WA; four great grandkids Kaitelyn Evans of Pilot Rock, OR, Charlie Evans of Hermiston, OR, Hayden and Hayzel Layng of Aberdeen WA.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Paul Edwards and parents Adrain and Myrtle Perkins.

For those who would like to make a donation in Memory of Nellie, the family suggests the non-profit “Creating Memories for Disabled Children” through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home PO Box 543 Halfway Oregon 97834. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
