Wilma Shankle Obituary

Wilma Lee Shankle,73, a longtime Baker City resident, died at her home Wednesday, November 6, 2019 surrounded by her family.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019~1 p.m. at the Elkhorn Eagles  Club (2935 H Street) in Baker City, Oregon.

 Wilma was born on November 11, 1945 in Baker City to Homer and Mary Pierce.  She attended elementary schools in North Powder and Halfway, then to Baker High School in Baker City.  Wilma continued her education and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Business in 1976. 

 Wilma married Jerry Dean Shankle in 1965 and together they had four children; Kari, Richard, Randall and Rodney.  After her divorce from Jerry, she met Chuck Rohner.  They had a wonderful 35 years together. 

 During her working career, she did bookkeeping for 20+ years.  She also well known for her role as custodian at Haines Elementary and Baker School District bus driver from 1992-2007. She loved the kiddos on her bus route and they quickly became like family. Recently, many have reached out to the family to let them know how important Wilma is to them still.

 Wilma was an excellent cook.  She was always willing to lend a hand, taking care of others.  She loved a game of shuffleboard at the Eagles, playing cards, and playing marbles/Aggravation with family and friends. She especially loved teaching grandchildren and great grandchildren how to be master Aggravation players.

 She loved her professional bull riders!!!! And most especially loved being able to watch her kids and grandkids play sports.  Wilma was a member and volunteer at the Eagles since 1983, meaning 36 years.   She will be remembered most as being a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a caring friend to many.

 She was preceded in death by her mother Mary (1981) father Homer (1986) son Rodney Shankle (1996) step-son Doug Davis (2012) grandson Gavin Davis (2015) son Richard Shankle (2016) life partner Chuck Rohner (2017).

 Wilma is survived by her daughters Kari Thoresen of Las Vegas, Nv; sons Randall Dean Shankle and his wife Melissa of Baker City Oregon; step sons Skip Davis and his wife Chris of Tucson, Az., Boyd Davis and his wife Rebecca of Irrigon, Or., Chad Davis and his wife Trish of Hermiston, Or., and Tyler Davis of Hermiston, Or. Daughter-in-laws - Alexandra Markantonatos Davis of Portland, Oregon; Kari Lansdon  of Baker City, OR., Mary Shankle  of Baker City, Or., Cheryl Guzman of Baker City, Or.; brothers Bill Pierce of Baker City, Larry Pierce  of John Day, Tom Pierce of Echo; sisters LaVelle Raley of Baker City, Joanne Salsby of Sun Valley, Nv., Judy McKay of Reno, Nv.; 28 grandchildren Kara Bond, Brooke Rogers, Lacey Banks, Chelsy Groat, Jake Woolard , Jon Woolard, Anthony Shankle, Lisa Kennedy, Sarah Shankle, Janelle Shankle, Alan Shankle, Trevor Shankle, Kayla Davis, Jessica Norris , Patricia Reichert, Andrew Davis, Jordan Davis, Alison Davis, Delanie Davis, Kyra Davis, Ellen Vandever, Dana Davis, Taylor Davis, Myka Davis, Boyd Davis Jr., Ryker Davis, Zane Davis, Jordyn Davis. Miguel Guzman, Grover White; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 on the way.
