Virginia Helen Rasmussen
June 03, 1938 - January 28, 2023
Virginia Helen Rasmussen of Richland, Oregon died January 28th, 2023 at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Baker City after a short illness. She was 84. Lovingly known as “Aunt Ginny” or “AG”, she was a lifelong devoted Catholic.
Virginia was born on June 3rd, 1938 in Mower, Minnesota to Walter George Speeter and Helen Delia Speeter. She had 5 siblings.
She spent most of her young life in Carnelian Bay, Lake Tahoe where she graduated from Tahoe Truckee High School, skied, played sports, swam in the lake and enjoyed the beauty of the Sierras. She moved to Sacramento to attend business school and had a successful career in banking followed by working for the forest service until she retired. She was married to Stanley Richard Rasmussen in Tahoe City in 1958 until his passing in 1991. Oregon was Virginia’s home for most of her adult life. Residing in Sisters until moving to Richland, which became her home and where her friends became her extended family.
Virginia was a beloved aunt who earnestly accepted the role of mother figure to her niece Leslie wholeheartedly and was cherished in return. She loved animals, reading, attending church, taking part in her book club and doing puzzles. Watching the deer come into her yard and taking in the view of the mountains from her home gave her peace. Traveling was also a passion with Hawaii being one of her favorite spots.
She is survived by her devoted niece, Leslie Costalin of Sacramento, CA; brother and sister-in law, George and Jesse Speeter of Silver Springs, NV; nieces & nephews, Chelsea Speeter, Garrett Speeter, Ivan Cole, Aaron Cole and Russell Eighmy.
Virginia was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Mahaffey, Donna Eighmy, Diane Shearer and Elizabeth Cole.
A Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held on March 18, 2023 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Halfway, Oregon. The Rosary will be begin at 1:30 PM followed by the Memorial Mass at 2:00. A reception (cookies/punch/coffee) will follow immediately after in the parish hall
Burial will take place at the Trails End Cemetery in Tahoe City, CA.
