Virginia Melgarejo Obituary

Virginia Melgarejo, 63, of Baker City, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at her home with her family at her side. A celebration of life will be held at her daughter Julie Gonzalez’s home (1012 Rose Street, Baker City) Saturday, July 13 at 4p.m. There will be BBQ, music and dancing as Virginia requested her life to be celebrated and not mourned.

Virginia was born April 5, 1956 in Portland, OR to parents Jim and Shirley Angus.  She was raised in Boring, OR on 10 acres in the country.

Virginia chose a career in law enforcement and became a Police Officer for Multnomah County.  She liked being a cop, but in 1997 she decided she wanted a change and purchased Charlie’s Ice Cream Parlor in Baker City; this was a job she truly enjoyed.

Her proudest moments were each time one of her children, grandkids and great grandkids were born.

Virginia enjoyed reading, watching her favorite cooking shows and baking, BBQ, spending time at the ocean, camping, fishing, hunting, riding her ATV and shopping online.  She adored roses, summertime and was a loyal fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family and loved ones and especially spoiling her grandkids.  She was quick witted and had a wicked funny sense of humor. She could make you smile or laugh, or be a shoulder to cry on when you needed one. Virginia was a giving and generous person and will be remembered for being an amazing mother, grandmother and best friend.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Shirley Angus and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her sons David Burleson and Dustin Melgarejo; daughters Julie Gonzalez and Dawn Light; grandchildren Damian, Airyona and Adrian Gonzalez, Daphene and Deanna Johnson, Autum and David Burleson Jr., great grandkids Natalie Johnson-Priest and Kobey Daily Johnson; brother Larry Angus and sister Charline Light.
