Vincent “Vince” Gloria Perez, a 65-year-old resident of Baker City, Oregon, peacefully passed away at his home on April 21, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family.
Born in Weiser, Idaho, on January 14, 1960, to Vicente and Isabel Perez, Vince grew up in a small rural town. He spent his youth assisting his father on the farm until his father, feeling overwhelmed by Vince’s antics, decided to end his career.
Next, Vince moved to San Jose, California, where he worked with the Union construction company until 1990. However, he soon missed the rural life and started his lifelong job of 29 years with the Nyssa School District maintenance department. This job and his colleagues became his true passions.
Vince cherished humor, humility, family, friends, and hard work. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, share a joke, and recite his favorite quote, “You can wish in one hand and sh_t in another, see which one fills up first.” That was Vince in a nutshell.
Beyond his medical expertise of duck tape on a cut, Vince was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed restoring his father’s 1951 Ford truck with his stepson, Jack, and fishing in Unity with his beloved wife of 16 years, Cheryl.
Despite battling dementia until his final days, Vince’s infectious chuckles could still be heard when we shared a joke.
Vince’s absence will be deeply felt, and life will be less vibrant without him.
Vince is survived by his loving and beautiful wife, Cheryl Perez and their blended family: Michael (Kim) Perez in Boise, Idaho, Dion Perez (Rick) Canton, NY, Salina Perez in Willamina, Oregon, and Corina Perez in Ontario, Oregon. step-son’s Kasey Potter (Eva) in Meridian, Idaho, Jack Vanderwall III in Baker City, Oregon, step-daughter’s Brandy McAvoy (Daniel) in Baker City, Oregon, and Tara Fralick (Nathan) in Pataskala, Ohio; Mother, Isabel Gloria Perez (Ontario, Oregon). He had several sisters he tried to avoid growing up, including Alma Luz Wilk (Mark) in Woodburn, Oregon, Silvia Deleon (Jay) in Ontario, Oregon, Guadalupe Mathews (Richard) in Salem, Oregon, Irma Perez (Roger) in Burlington, Washington, and Elsa Perez (Sophia) in Meridian, Idaho.
Vince was incredibly fond of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he often joked that he had a “sh_t load” of them. He loved them all dearly.
Vince’s father, Vicente, passed away in 2005.
Vince requested no traditional services, because he was so incredibly handsome and didn’t want to be center of attention, even in his next chapter. The family asks that we honor his memory by writing his name on a cold beer and toast to him or kiss a worm in his name and land that big fish. Whatever we do, let’s make it a fun and memorable way to remember him.
