Verlene Lyn Davis, 67, passed away peacefully Tuesday July 23, 2024 at her home in Canyon City after a valiant fight with cancer. A celebration of life will take place August 17, 2 pm at Doug and Verlene’s home: 22924 Corral Gulch Rd in Canyon City.
She was the middle child and only girl to the late Vernon L. and Alene H. Peterman. Born June 30, 1957 she joined big brother Floyd, later followed by brother Mark.
She spent part of her childhood in John Day, then later her family moved to Mill City, OR where she graduated from Santiam High School in 1975, making many friends and memories along the way. She then spent two years at Mt Hood Community college where she graduated with a degree in physical therapy. As a child Verlene enjoyed visiting her grandma Katie at the family ranch in Hamilton. In the late 70’s she got the opportunity to live on Maui where she fell in love with the island and visited several more times in her life.
A coworker at Meier and Frank told her she had a guy for her to meet. This is where Doug and Verlene’s story began, on a blind date set up by the coworker and Doug’s best friend. Verlene married the love of her life, Douglas J Davis of Lyons, Or in Salem on September 26, 1981. They then resided in Lyons where they welcomed their daughter, Tasha. They later moved to John Day where they welcomed their second daughter, Tiffany. They then moved their family of four to Prairie City where they resided for the next 13 years. In 2000 they fulfilled a dream by buying a ranch in Canyon City where she remained living out her days.
She loved traveling and summers were her favorite time of year where you could find her around the fire pit with Doug and Marcia or enjoying the view from her porch. She lived for family time spent with her daughter’s families and of course her grandbabies which she “loved to the moon and back.”
Verlene had the biggest heart and was most proud of her loving 42 year marriage, two daughters and her 5 grandbabies! She will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion and unwavering love for her family. She was loved beyond measure.
She is survived by her husband, Doug, daughters Tasha (Kevin), Tiffany (Wade), grandchildren Rilyn, Mylee, Adalyn, Emmett and Gage, brothers Floyd (Amy), Mark (Theresa) and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
For those who would like to make a memorial donation in honor of Verlene, the family suggests Blue Mountain Hospice through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, PO Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
