Sunny had a BIG personality.
Sunny adopted me from the Central Oregon Humane Society on July 11, 2006. He was 9 weeks old. I wasn't looking for a cat or kitten but while, I was sitting on a bench, he climbed into my lap.
Sunny has been through or stayed in 37 states during his life. He lived in Bend, OR, then Baker City, OR. He wintered in Florida for 12 years and also spent time at the family cabin in Minnesota. Sunny was actually rather sickly his entire life. He got sick when he was adopted and over the years, he developed an autoimmune disorder called esonophylickeritenitis that developed in his eye. it was arrested but the virus lived in Sunny's system. He developed asthma, due to the virus, I believe and with meds, he got other side effects like pancreatitis. Sunny also had teeth problems which led to removal of several. 3 years ago, while in Florida, he "smiled" at me and I noticed a lip curl. I looked and he had lost his upper left fang! There was never an indication and his gum looked like there had never been a tooth there. It was never found.
Sunny had a full life, He was an indoor kitty with access to screened outdoor areas. In Florida, he spent his time catching every lizard he could and then I spent equally as much time trying to get them away from him! Lizards are like mice, they can squeeze into any area. Last year, Sunny was diagnosed with early stage kidney failure. In February of this year (2023) I entered Sunny in the America's Favorite Pet contest. (Cat edition) I think the contest ran for 2 months. Sunny made it to 3rd place in the quarter finals! I think it was awesome for 16 + year old kitty. On Nov 5th, 2023 Sunny passed away at home. He was 17.5 yrs old and he is missed.
