Sherry Buxton, 74, of Baker City, died Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at home surrounded by family. A potluck celebration of Sherry's life will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2023~ 3 p.m. at the Geiser Pollman Park in Baker City.
Sherry was born June 18, 1949 in Portland, OR to parents Teddy and Minnie Durst. She was raised and educated in Long Creek, OR. After high school, she lived in Pendleton, LaGrande, John Day and Baker.
She was married to Terry Karp for 14 years, they later divorced. Sherry met the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Buxton. Bobby married Sherry Buxton on June 17, 1995 in the backyard of their home in Baker City. He often said that was a Red-Letter day. The day was not only memorable because it was their wedding anniversary, but because it was also the day before Sherry’s Birthday and she didn’t want him to forget.
Sherry wore many hats throughout her working career. She was a salon owner in John Day for 10 years, a cake decorator for 20 years, a CNA/ CMA for 1o years as well and in home care for 10 years.
Sherry looked forward to spring and summer, her favorite color being green. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, making cakes and going to church. Sherry especially loved spending time with her family and her fur baby Tasha Joy Bell.
Sherry was a member of the Eagles #3456. She served as an Officer and Treasurer. The Eagles club was also where she spent many nights dancing and doting on her husband who played music in the band “The Countrymen”.
Memorable dates in her life included the birth of her beautiful and loving son Paul and her marriage to “Bobby” Buxton. She lived with the philosophy to enjoy life. She liked to say, “what’s wrong with this picture”? One of Sherry's favorite shirts, and the one she was wearing on the evening she left this world read, "when I get old I don't want people thinking, "what a sweet little old lady. " I want them saying, "Oh crap, what is she up to now". Sherry will be remembered for the people she took care of and the love she had for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Buxton; parents Theodore and Minnie Durst; brother Theodore Durst; ex-husband Terry Karp.
Sherry is survived by her sons Paul T. Karp, Christopher Roberts; daughter in law Sheila Buxton; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; faithful furry companion Tasha Joy Bell.
For those who would like to make a memorial donation in memory of Sherry, she asked they be made to the Cancer Society through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfunearalhome.com
