Sam Wheeler, 64, of Elgin, died on April 13, 2022 at the Grand Ronde Retirement Center in La Grande, Oregon. A Celebration of Sam’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 – 2:00 p.m. at the Elgin Community Center.
Samuel Lee Wheeler was born on October 25, 1957 to Joe and Joy Wheeler. Sam grew up on Cricket Flat, the family homestead ranch, outside of Elgin. He went to school in Elgin and then graduated from Imbler High School. Following High School, Sam went to automotive school, when he came back to Elgin, he met his wife Angie Meyer. Sam and Angie were married in 1986 in La Grande, Oregon and they had two sons; Ben and Tim. He was very proud of his boys. Sam and Angie divorced in 2001, but remained friends.
Sam was Owner/operator of RV Hauling. He then drove long haul and log truck. He later bought his own truck, and took a lot of pride in it. He Loved being his own boss, making his own decisions and all the freedom it came with. Sam enjoyed hunting fishing, road trips and was a gun enthusiast. He had a tremendous sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Sam is survived by his sons Ben Wheeler and Tim Wheeler; his mother Joy; sisters Carrie Gerber, Elizabeth Wheeler; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
