Richard Seal Obituary

Richard Lee Seal

Richard Lee Seal, 77, passed away May 19th, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 am PST in Halfway, Oregon at the Halfway Lions Hall.  Interment will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery.  Following the interment, friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception at the Lions Hall.

Richard was born to Hobart and Ellen Seal in Baker on April 1st, 1947. He was raised in Halfway and graduated from Pine Valley High School in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Merrilyn Riggs, from the rival Eagle Valley High School on June 22nd, 1966 in Midvale, Idaho. They raised their three children together: Mari, Bob, and Teena.

Richard lived and work in several places through the years. After high school he spent several years working construction in Portland, Oregon. In 1977 the family returned to Halfway where he was employed with Idaho Power until his retirement in 2007. Richard and Merrilyn eventually settled into their home on Fish Lake Road where he enjoyed the abundant wildlife. He especially enjoyed feeding his flock of quail that came to his call every evening. Richard loved spending time with his kids and grandkids telling them stories of how it used to be. His passion was caring for his garden and yard, which was evident if you ever had a chance to visit. He had a love for the outdoors where he spent a lot of time hunting, mushrooming, looking for shed antlers, hot dog roasting and enjoying nature with his family. He spent a lot of time caring for his pets, both domestic and “wild.” It seemed all animals knew he had a soft spot for them.

Richard has always been a huge supporter of local athletic programs and the Pine Eagle FFA Chapter, where he spent many years on the Ag Advisory Committee.

Richard is survived by his three children: Mari (Chuck) Rager, Bob (Nora) Seal, Teena Thomas; brother Norman Seal, sister Linda Blank and his grandchildren: Tanner Seal, Jacob Moody, Justin Seal, and Emma Moody.

He was preceded in death by his parents Everett Hobart and Mary Ellen Seal, and wife Merrilyn Ann Seal.

Dad will be truly missed; however, his love and memories will forever remain in our hearts.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pine Eagle FFA Chapter through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation services P.O. Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834.  Online condolences may be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
