Richard Hugh Cooper, 81, of Fruitland, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Known affectionately as “Rich,” he was born on October 23, 1943, in Long Beach, California. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 - 3:00 p.m. mst at the Calvary Chapel 1775 Alameda in Ontario, Oregon.
A proud veteran, Rich served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Shortly after his discharge, he met the love of his life, Betty, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised three children—Claire, Shannon, and Charles—instilling in them his love for adventure, kindness, and perseverance.
An avid runner, Rich participated in countless marathons, including the Boston and Los Angeles marathons, and had the honor of carrying the torch in the 1984 Olympics. His passion for the outdoors extended to biking, golfing, kayaking, camping, and bird watching. He and Betty traveled widely, exploring nearly every state and many countries abroad, with Washington, D.C., holding a special place in his heart.
Rich was deeply generous, always ready to lend a hand to those in need and known for his humor and warmth. He also volunteered as a seal watcher for Santa Barbara County, supporting local wildlife preservation.
Rich is survived by his devoted wife Betty; children Claire, Shannon, and Charles; and his sister, Kay Robinson. He will be remembered for his loving spirit, hardworking nature, and joyful heart.
