Rebecca "Becky" McVicker Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Irene McVicker passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022, in Auburn, Washington at the age of 74.  A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 - 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon.

Rebecca Irene was born in Portland, Oregon, to Robert Corwin and Patricia Jeanette (Easton) Matheson  on June 14, 1948. She spent her childhood in Brightwood, Oregon, and graduated from Sandy Union High School. Becky was active in sports, including volleyball, softball, hunting, and fishing. After graduation she attended beauty school in Portland, where she earned her beautician’s license.

She worked for Deluxe Check Printers in Portland for ten years, and met her future husband, Steve McVicker, there. They were married in 1974. They had one son, Robert (Bobby) McVicker. In 1984, after her divorce, Becky went to work for Northwest Airlines, where she served for 17 years.

After retirement, she spent quality time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Becky was a great cook, and helped her grandchildren make fun things in the kitchen. She earned among family and friends the nickname “Becky Crocker.”

Becky was an avid deer hunter. When Bobby was little, she would carry him on her back while hunting. For many years she hunted with her good friend Leon Murphy. She would regularly save all her Northwest Airlines vacation time so that she could go hunting with her mother each Fall. They had many successful and fun hunting experiences together.

She was preceded in death by her father Robert Matheson and a little brother Robert Lawrence Matheson, who died in infancy.

Becky is survived by her mother Patricia Matheson; son Bobby (Christa) McVicker; grandchildren Nathanial, Madeline, and James; three sisters Marilyn (Jeff) Yost, Carolyn (Frank) Christensen, and Roberta (DJ) Smith; nieces and nephews; and devoted friend Leon Murphy. Special thanks and appreciation to Renee Killian and Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders.
