Raymond Green Obituary

Raymond Avery Green, 80, passed peacefully in his sleep with family by his side Monday, December 23, 2019 at Settlers Park in Baker City.  A Traditional Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baker City. A viewing will be held at 10:30 am with the service to start at 11 am.  Friends are invited to join the family for a reception to be held immediately following the service at the church. Interment with Military Honors to be held at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande at 2 p.m.

Raymond was welcomed on September 23, 1939 in Mountain View, Wyoming to Edna Dolly Green and Avery Nuell Green. He was the third of four children and their only son. Edna and Avery moved to LaGrande, OR in 1946 where they were able to establish a better life for their family.

Raymond graduated from LaGrande High School in 1957, he joined the U.S Army where he served from 1959 -1964 as a Private First Class. Raymond met his wife Liliane in 1965 while hewas working with her father in Roseburg, Oregon and they were married later that year on August 14.

Raymond and Liliane moved to Baker City in late 1977 where they were able to establish a great life for their family. Raymond worked for the Local 701 Operating Engineers Union. He was a part of many large projects and was proud to say, “I built that”.

He retired after 40 years of service in the union. During his retirement he enjoyed staying busy by volunteering with the Oregon State Forest Service, maintaining his ranch and traveling with his wife to visit his children and grandchildren. Raymond’s favorite past time was always getting a good deal on things he set his mind to.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Avery Nuell Green & Edna Dolly Green; sister Doris Allen; granddaughter Kimberly Christensen and great grandson Austin Lisk.

He is survived by his wife Liliane Green and his six children, Ronda McLaughlin (John) of La Grande OR., Lesli Northup of Boise ID., Tina Carpenter (Jasen) of Marysville CA., William Green (Liz) of Portland OR., Susan Thistlewood (John) of Boise ID., Avery Green (Trevee) of Portland OR., 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and Two Sisters Lois Smith and Bonney Bryan.
