Randolph "R.E." Sharp Obituary

R.E. Sharp - Randolph "R.E." Sharp, 86, of Richland, Oregon died at his home with his family at his side on Friday, January 5, 2024. R.E.Sharp - A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 - 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon.  Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck (meat will be provided) salads and desserts welcome, to be held immediately following the graveside at the New Bridge Grange.

Randolph Edward (R.E.) Sharp was born on July 21, 1937 at the Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon to Randolph S. Sharp and Leora Arletta Sharp. He was the second of three children: Evelyn, R.E. and Marty.

R.E's God-given talent was mechanicing. Following graduation from Eagle Valley High he moved to Longview, Texas and attended LeTourneau Tech. After his education, he enlisted in the Army in 1960. He was then stationed in Alaska as a helicopter mechanic.

Upon the discharge from the Army, R.E. worked at the Sullivan Ranch in Hereford, Oregon. In 1967 R.E. married the love of his life, Betty Hoselton. After their wedding they moved to Hereford. They soon moved to Baker, where he worked at the John Deere shop. They had three children and were very involved with their church.

After a few years R.E. decided he wanted to move back home and be here for his parents as they got older. He then started his own business in the community that he was raised in and loved.

In addition to the love of reciting poems, singing in the choir and doing solos at church he loved the mountains. His favorite place was Hidden Lake up in the Eagle Caps. He often took his two boys and many friends, at various times, up to that special place that he loved so much. Even without a tent and just a sleeping bag he would take off and enjoy his quiet place.

In his later years he was given the opportunity to travel with Work and Witness through the Nazarene Church in Baker City. He was able to minister through his expertise of welding and helping to build many schools and churches. After his experience of working with those of third world countries such as Guatemala, Samoa and Fiji, he felt very blessed to live in America.

R.E. is survived by his wife, Betty Sharp; children, Lorie Prout, Edward Sharp and Steven Sharp; two grandchildren, Katherine and Jesse Prout; brother and sister-in-law Joel Martin “Marty” and Kathy Sharp. He was preceded in death by his parents Randolph and Leora Sharp; sister Evelyn Hartless.
