Mildred "Millie" Hester Obituary

On January 20, 2024 Mildred (Millie) L. Conklin Hester, Baker City left her beloved home at 9th and C Streets where she had resided with her husband Gary for 70 years raising her three sons and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Granny was born May 9, 1936 to Arthur and Helen Berg Conklin, the last of their five children. In 1953 she married H. Gary Hester and in November of 1953 they welcomed their first son Doug, followed by Rod in 1955, in 1959 their family was complete with Scott.  The family loved camping up East Eagle Creek, and being mom to avid hunters she provided lunches and snacks, and cleaned and cooked whatever they brought home.  When the boys were old enough to work they purchased the property north of the family home known to all of the many renters through the years as the ghetto.

Once the boys were all in school she started working at Basche-Sage Hardware until they closed in 1980.  In 1981 she started working for the Bureau of Land Management until retiring in 1998.

Granny’s door was always open and many will remember going to the house during high school for lunch with her boys and later grandkids, there was always plenty to eat along with the never ending cookie jar filled with homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Gary, and her two sons Doug and Rod.  She is survived by her son Scott (Tanis), grandchildren; Doug, Tanya Jo, Jake, Randi, RC, and seven great-grandchildren.  On her last day she was able to speak with all the grandchildren to say goodbye and love you.

No services are planned as was her wish.  If you would like to remember Granny, plant red Geraniums in the spring. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
