Michael Speelman Obituary

Michael Speelman, 77, formerly of Baker City, died on December 26, 2021 at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Michael Theron Speelman passed away on Dec. 26, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He was born Oct. 9, 1944, in Baker, Oregon. He married Trish on Jan. 2, 1982. They were married for 40 years. Mike worked as a welder and fabricator, and his work took them to many states where they met and made so many wonderful friends. Mike retired in Madras, Oregon, in February of 2012 from Portland General Electric. At that time, Mike and Trish moved to Saint Helens, Oregon. Mike loved hunting fiand fishing. He loved those poker machines. He loved to cook and was always up to the task to make the mashed potatoes for 25 or so at Thanksgiving. The Talley Family Reunion attendees always looked forward to Mike grilling clams and oysters. Mike was a Seahawks and Mariners fan but the top priority was the Portland Trailblazers. He and Trish were members of the Blazer Booster Club when living in Scappoose and have attended many games. Above all, Mike loved his family. He was so proud of his grandkids. Mike considered Trish’s family as important as his family. He fit right in. His four-legged son, Shaniko, was always by his side until he went to doggie heaven in 2016. Mike made many friends wherever he went and was always willing to help anyone who needed him. He never said no. Mike is survived by his wife Trish of 40 years; his sister Pat Chappell, of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; his children Tammy Hastings, Michael Sean Speelman, Anthony Joseph Speelman (Danni), Penny Jackson (Henry), Kristin Parker (Larry) and Jaime Speelman-Flatters (Michael); grandchildren Scottie Speelman, Alyssa Laboy (Josh), Kaylee and Hunter Parker, Georgia and Myra Flatters, Mackenzie Mask, Leighann and Trinity Jackson and Branden and Traevis Hastings; great grandkids Kyleeanne Marie Nightingale-Field, Dayton Rose Nightingale-Field, Nathan Robinson, Akiyah Sophia and Gemma Grace Field, and Zayden Laboy; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Claude Leroy and Janet Elizabeth Speelman, his sister Lela Key and his brother Joseph Speelman. He will be buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City, Oregon. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Pathway Church of God, 1416 S. Scheuber Road, Centralia, Washington.
