Michael Morse Obituary

Michael “Mike” Morse, 69, of North Powder, died Saturday, May 20, 2023 at his home.

Michael Jay Morse was born in California on October 4, 1953.  At a young age he moved to Southern Oregon where he was raised and educated.  He received his high school diploma in 1971.

Mike delighted in cooking. He was known as “Chef/Big Mike” and was proud that he had worked from the bottom to the top in the food industry.

Mike fell in love with Bonnie George Shaw. They were married in 2012.

Mike was a member of the North Powder City Council and the Wolf Creek Grange. He was also the Mayor of North Powder for a few months.

Mike’s faithful and furry friend, was a Great Dane named Malamo.  He also had a fondness for “Minnie the Moo” who would come to the house for milking.

His favorite color was tie-dyes and brights. He enjoyed every season, from going skiing to growing things.  Mike wasn’t shy about the fact that he chased trains and was proud to be a train foamer, which is what railroad employees describe railfans as they “foam” at the mouth anytime they see a train.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents June and Robert Morse.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Shaw Morse of North Powder, OR; brother Mitchell and sisters Melinda, Sue and Maria.
