Michael Hulburt Obituary

Michael W. Hulburt Sr., a resident of Baker City, Oregon, passed away at the age of 77 on December 20, 2023. His final moments were spent peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, concluding a slow prolonged goodbye.

Born on August 16, 1946, in Tillamook, Oregon, Mike lived his early years on the family ranch in Blaine, OR before moving to Tillamook when he was 7 years old.  Mike graduated from Tillamook H.S. in 1964, and then married the love of his life, Kathleen Bradley, in 1965. He joined the National Guard shortly after graduating High School, serving in the Guards through 1969.  After completion of an apprenticeship with his friend and mentor Art Pfaff, he became a journeyman cabinet maker.  Mike then spent 5 years as a Tillamook city police officer, developing life-long friendships with many of his fellow officers.  He left the police force to open Mike’s Wood Shoppe, later expanding his cabinet and wood building skills to include glass and window installations.  In 2008 Mike and Kathy moved to Baker City where he enjoyed his retirement watching his grandchildren participate in their many sport activities, attending various family vacations and puttering in his Baker wood shop.

Mike had a strong sense of humor and devotion to others, traits that endeared him throughout his life to all who met and knew him. His profound love for his family, and his unwavering commitment to serving others are the hallmarks of his memory. As we mourn his absence, we also celebrate a life well-lived and find comfort in the belief that he has been restored to his truest self where Mike knows Mike again and that he has been reunited with his son and other loved ones.

Mike’s legacy is carried on by the love of his life Kathleen, daughter Sally and her husband Rob Bachman, son Tom and his wife Veronica, as well as his adored grandchildren: Ashley, Brad, Carrie, Christopher, Dane, Keaton, Kerry, Makenna, and Zak. His joy was further multiplied by four great-grandchildren: Ethan, Karter Ann, Maddox, and Landyn.

Preceding him in death were his son, Michael Jr., his parents, Warren and Florence, his in-laws, Harold and Luella, and his brothers, Jack and Merwin.

A celebration of Mike's life will be arranged during the coming late spring, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory.  Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation ( or Alzheimer’s Association ( through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, PO Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
