Maureen Stanciu Obituary

Maureen Stanciu, 84, of Richland entered into rest on February 3, 2023 at her home.

Her funeral service will be Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon. (unless it is too cold in which case it will be at the Richland Seventh Day Adventist Church). A potluck reception will be held at the Richland Christian Church immediately following the interment.

Ira and Leora (Whyte) Goodwin became parents to Leora Maureen Goodwin on July 4, 1938 at Pendleton, Oregon. Maureen graduated from South Salem High in 1956.

After high school, Maureen spent one year at Oregon State and then went to work in the recreation department at Fairview Home and Training School. She then transferred to the State Hospital in Pendleton and continued to work in the recreation department.

Maureen married and divorced Raymond Jakeway in 1961. Maureen became the proud mother of Michael Jakeway in April of 1962.

Maureen gracefully juggled being a single mother and working as a nurse’s aide at Salem Memorial Hospital. Maureen and Michael moved to Walla Walla when Michael was about seven years old so that Maureen could go to the community college there to get her LPN. She then worked as a LPN at St. Mary’s and Walla Walla General Hospital up until their move to Salmon, Idaho. In Salmon, she worked at the health department until 1981 when she decided to get her RN from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon.

On September 20, 1981 Maureen married the love of her life, Wally Stanciu in Coeur’d Alene, Idaho. Maureen and Wally created a great life together in Richland, Oregon. Maureen loved getting to live on the Powder River with Wally and worked hard to make their ranch house a home.

Maureen worked a variety of nursing jobs in Eastern Oregon up until her retirement from Heart ’N Home Hospice. She especially had a passion for teaching and empowering folks how to care for their loved one in their own home. And while she may have retired from a career of nursing, she never stopped caring for others. She had the gift of encouragement through her thoughtful cards or conversation. She also had a vast knowledge of home/natural remedies that the community often referenced up until the very end. And she was famous for her homemade breads and pies that she shared with countless folks.

More than anything Maureen would want to be remembered for her love for our Lord. She was deeply devoted to her small country church. And she had a passion for studying the Bible by herself and with others. Maureen prayed for a long list of folks each and every day. She often encouraged others with these words, “Remember, God is in control and we can trust Him!”

Maureen is survived by her son, Michael (Teresa) Jakeway of Bakersfield, California; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Ben and Jennifer Shearer of Tri-Cities, Washington; and niece, Shauna-Lynn (Kenny)  Santee of Licking, Missouri; Maureen’s “wonderful grandchildren,” Justin (Tayler) Jakeway, Eric and Emile Shearer all of Tri-Cities, Washington, Jessica (Andrew) Pisciotta and their daughter Ziva of Fairchild AFB, Washington, Laura (Jaron) River of Beaverton, Oregon, Ryan (Vanessa) Tachenko and their children Zeb, Jabel, Dawnna and Theodore of Baker City, Oregon, Mollie (Jeremy) Whitaker and their children Wyatt, Morgan, McKinzie, Cameron, and Annabel of Culver, Oregon; along with many nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Leora Goodwin; her husband, Wally Stanciu; and her brother, Mike Goodwin.

Memorial contributions can be made to Eagle Valley Ambulance Fund for education for EMTs through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834.  Online condolences may be shared through www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
