Mark Bork Obituary

Mark Bork, 54, of Sumpter, OR passed away on May 16, 2025.  A private family celebration will be held at a later date.

Mark Douglas Bork was born in Baker City, Oregon on May 17, 1970 to parents Neal Bork and Georgene (Bork) Wirth.  He attended school in Baker City, OR and graduated with a GED from Blue Mountain Community College. He started going to college for nursing, but let college go to work and support his family.

Mark grew up working with his father Neal Bork, and older brother Mike Bork at the family auto shop. Mark worked in auto mechanics throughout his life in Baker City, and Sumpter. While living in Bend, OR he got his contractor’s license, and he had his own business as a framer/house builder. When Mark moved back to Baker City in 2007, he started his own business as an auto mechanic, welder & fabricator.

Mark and Misty Davis met as Mark was friends with Misty’s dad Al through construction. Mark had moved back to Baker City, from Bend, OR. when he sat down to chat with Misty’s dad during dinner at El Erradero. Later, mark joined Al, Misty and Leslie at a horse event, where Mark and Misty’s started hanging out, and began dating shortly after.  Mark and Misty fell quickly in love, 3 months later Mark asked Misty to marry him. In February 2008, Mark and Misty welcomed their beautiful daughter Athena Bork into the world. Mark always spoke about and showed his love of Athena to everyone.  He shared how proud he was of her all the time, how smart she was, and he loved when she helped him in the shop or in the field. Mark was especially proud of Athena having started her own businesses, and graduating from high school in 2025, a year early! Mark and Misty were married for 18 years and though they divorced they had remained the best of friends.

Some of Mark’s most enjoyed hobbies in life were working on and riding his dirt bike in the spring, summer and fall, and snow bike in the winter months. He loved to rock and agate hunt, a hobby he picked up joining his wife, daughter, in-laws AL and Leslie Davis on many adventures around Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada. Mark loved the outdoors, mushrooming with family, and huckleberry hunting. He truly loved taking a drive or hike in the mountains, with Misty, Athena and the family of Dachshund’s; these were some of his most favorite moments. Mark loved cars, racing, and re-building them when he had the time.  He found his peace riding his dirt bike and snow bike from the family home in Sumpter. Mark’s Favorite color was plum crazy purple. He cherished the beautiful spring wildflowers, especially blue bells; he would always give one to Misty, Athena and mother in-law Leslie.

Mark absolutely adored his dogs! There was a family joke, with Misty and Athena that Mark may have loved his dogs more than them. Mark was always seen with the family of Dachshunds, they were never left behind.

Mark left a legacy of being the man you went to if you wanted something done right, he was a jack of all trades or “Mark-Gyver” as his family and friends called him; he truly was a master of his craft. Mark was known for being the big guy, with the grizzly bear exterior, with the teddy bear heart (he had a heart of gold). Mark was always there for anyone who needed help, he would put everything aside to help someone out. All Mark wanted was to make those around him happy!

Mark was preceded in death by his father Neal Bork.

Mark survived by his daughter Athena Bork; ex-wife & best friend Misty Bork; mother Georgene Wirth; brother Mike Bork; nephews Jason, Jake, and Max Bork; nieces Cirra and Makayla Bork; his beloved dogs, Willow, Ginger, Badger, and Cosmo.
