Mardell McCauley Obituary

Mardell S. McCauley passed away Saturday, November 3rd at the age of 75 years old.  There will be a family interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Sunday, December 16th at 11:00am.  Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life luncheon on Sunday, December 16th starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Baker City VFW Hall. Please stop by to share a bite to eat, a story, and a laugh.

Mardell was born July 22,1943 in Baker, Oregon to parents Don and Pauline Sheppard. She graduated from Baker High School in 1961 and married her high school sweetheart and husband for 54 years, Bill McCauley, on January 12, 1962.

After she married Bill, Mardell got a job working at The Merc in downtown Baker.  In 1963 Bill and Mardell started their family. She was a housewife for the first ten years of her marriage chasing around three young boys while Bill worked two jobs.  Mardell started working for A-1 Realty in 1972 as a bookkeeper and tax preparer until she took over management of Oregon Trails RV Park where she retired in 2017.  Mardell was the matriarch of the RV park and enjoyed all of the people she came into contact with throughout the years.  She enjoyed decorating the park with the change of each season and making her customers feel at home.

As her family grew, Mardell supported her three boys in all of their athletic events and volunteered countless hours with the Baker Wrestling Program, Little League Baseball, and Babe Ruth Baseball.  She never missed a sporting event of her son’s or grandchildren, and always had words of encouragement for everyone involved.

Mardell loved to travel, her favorite destinations were Dollywood and Branson Missouri. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them at Christmas.  She was a thoughtful and generous lady who supported every BHS Fundraiser, baked goodies for everyone, and loved decorating her house for the holidays.

Mardell is preceded in death by her husband Bill McCauley; parents Don and Polly Sheppard and her sisters Paula Sue and Nelda.

She leaves behind her boys and their families; Doug and Treasa McCauley, Alan and Michele McCauley, Travis and Darcy McCauley; her sisters and husbands; Donola and Nils Thornberg and Shirleen and Bill Dunn; sister in-law Janice McCauley; brother in-law Vic Retherford, grandchildren, Jarrod Carter, Trisha Holcomb, Riley McCauley, Jasmine McCauley, Darryn McCauley, Dani McCauley, Shane McCauley, Sam McCauley; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
