Macie "Jean" Price Obituary

Macie “Jean” Eugenia Price , 89, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life will be held at the Boulevard Grange Hall in Ontario, Oregon on Saturday February 17th at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch served immediately following the service.

She was born February 6, 1935, in Hagarville, Arkansas to Henry Bruce Chronister and Ruth (Langford) Chronister. She graduated high school in Lamar, Arkansas in 1953. She married Leon Price on June 3rd, 1954, and moved to Oregon where they made their home and raised three children together. Denis, Gary, and Pamela.

Jean was a very devoted wife, mother, and friend to many. She supported Leon with his business, “Leon Price Leveling and Subsoiling”, driving flag car when moving their heavy equipment, she helped him stake and survey fields, ran after parts, prepared the billing, collected receivables and prepared taxes, and she was there to hand Leon tools during repairs.  She was always willing to help whenever help was needed. In addition to being a homemaker, she was an active member and officer in the Boulevard Grange, the Malheur County Extension Night Owls, she worked the polls during the Oregon Elections, and she was an officer of the PTA at Cairo elementary school.

Jean enjoyed sewing, crocheting, yard sales, cooking, baking, and she took immense pride in her home. She was a very welcoming and loving person. If you were anywhere near her home around mealtime you were going to enjoy a home cooked meal, no one ever left her table hungry. There was a standing invitation to all for dessert and coffee any time of the day. She was a true “Southern Woman”.  She may have been a transplant to Oregon, but her Southern upbringing was a part of her soul. She enjoyed so many things but all of them revolved around family and her lifelong friends. She enjoyed picking asparagus along the ditch banks with Virginia Saito, making homemade candles, candy, and baking with Val Richmond, crafting and searching out depression glassware with Betty Maine. Jean and Leon enjoyed traveling together and with their family and friends. They traveled to Arkansas every summer, took trips to Hawaii, New Orleans, Florida, California, attended numerous Reno Air Shows, and enjoyed many Cruises.

Jean loved and cared for so many people, young and old, and she did it effortlessly with nothing but love and kindness. Although her family and childhood friends were in Arkansas 2000 miles away, she was still able to keep them close to her heart and visited them as often as possible. Jean cherished spending time with her grandkids Denise, LeeAnn, Tiffany, Aspen, Richard, Erika, and Christopher and her eight great grandchildren Hunter, Trapper, Charlotte, Anna, Clint, Isaiah, Olivia, and Maxwell whenever possible.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Leon, her parents Henry Bruce and Ruth Chronister, her brother Mack Edward (M.E.) and his wife Wanda Chronister, and her special sister-in-law, JoEllen Chronister. She is survived by her children, Denis (Rebecca) Price of Ontario, Oregon; Gary (Melanie) Price of Florence, Kentucky; Pam (Dino) Herrera of La Grande, Oregon; her seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank the Ancora Health Services hospice team and the many caregivers at Brookdale Senior Living for their compassionate care and support during Jean’s final days.
