Loretta Thatcher

Loretta Thatcher, 84, died at her home surrounded by family on August 18, 2023 in Halfway, Oregon. No service is planned at this time.

Loretta May was born on December 6, 1938 to Orlando and Bernice (Torrey) Farmer in Westfir, Oregon. She was raised in Westfir and graduated high school there. She met her future husband Don Thatcher while in High School; they were married on January 24, 1959.

She worked as a hair dresser for many years while living in Eugene and Crow Oregon. She then worked as a full-time mom raising three boys. Loretta enjoyed growing flowers and garden’s; she knew every flower native to the northwest. "She never met a flower she did not like." In 1980 the family bought a small ranch in Pine Valley. Loretta and Don ran the ranch for 20 years. Loretta always said they were the best of years. After retiring from the ranch Don and Loretta moved to Baker City worked at Thatcher’s Ace Hardware and enjoyed retirement. In 2018 they moved back to Pine Valley.  Don and Loretta enjoyed 64 years of marriage together and she will be missed by all her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Clifford Farmer.

Loretta is survived by her children Scott and Diana Thatcher of Baker City, Oregon, Shawn and Jodel Thatcher of Halfway, Oregon, Shannon and Crystal Thatcher of Eugene, Oregon; sister Patricia Gage; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
