Leslie “Les” Benjamin Martin, 81, died February 1, 2023 at his home in Baker City, OR.
Benny was born September 10, 1941 to parents Robert and Billy Martin in Phoenix, Arizona. He was raised in Notus and Melba, Idaho. Following school, he joined the Air Force in Plattsburg, New York, it was there he met his wife Joyce and together they had 3 children Rita, Terri and Leslie.
Les worked as a production foreman in the oil fields and later when living in Nampa, he worked for several ranchers. When the time came to move closer to family, he decided to make Baker City his home. He said “100 miles from family was close enough and it worked out.”
Les liked to tinker and enjoyed making fire starts using sawdust, lamp oil and candle wax, then put in egg cartons. One thing Les would most like to be remembered for was “Always doing the best I could.
Les is survived by his children; brother Earnest Martin and wife Ethel; Sisters JoElla Shiley, Lois Jackson, Judy Perry, Dorothy Clark and Bobbi Hamilton; many very special friends.
