Leona Hurd

Leona Eleanor Hurd, 95, died on April 12, 2023, surrounded by love, at her home in Richland, Oregon.  A Traditional Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 – 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon.  A reception will be held immediately following at the New Bridge Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall. 

Leona was married to the Rev. Sedgwick Lee Hurd and they had four children together; Wilbur Charles, Sonja Lee, John Allen and Emmett Brian.  Emmett is the only surviving child. In 1951 Leona had given birth to all 4 children and had moved to Anaheim, California.  She worked at Disneyland since opening day until the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1959.  She worked at Birds Eye Cannery with her Mom Olive Jacobs of North Plaines, Oregon. She finally retired from Tektronix in Beaverton, Oregon.

Following the death of her husband in 2001, Leona moved to Richland, Oregon.  She met Lawrence Brown through Kathy (Hickman) and Vern Patterson.  They lived a happy, comfortable life. Leona loved to sew, fish, cook and play the church organ, piano and sing. She loved to drive and explore looking for huckleberries.  And while camping she enjoyed looking for berries for canning.  She LOVED Life.

Leona is survived by longtime friend and companion Lawrence Brown, son Emmett Hurd of Hillsboro, Oregon; two grandchildren Shannon and Michelle and two great grandchildren.
