A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11am at the Richland Christian Church followed immediately by a Graveside Committal and then Potluck back at the church. Lela went home to her Savior on September 29, 2023.
Born in 1925 to Virgil & Edith Weir in Sparta, Oregon, Lela was one of 12 siblings and started school in Sparta and moved to Eagle Valley around 1933. She attended Pleasant Ridge through 7th grade and was at Sunnyside for 8th grade. After graduation from Eagle Valley High in 1944, she attended Baker Business College in Baker that summer after graduation.
In the fall of 1944 she moved to Portland and worked for Western Union until she left to recover from an illness. Subsequently she took a job with the Army Corp of Engineers where she worked for 4 years.
In 1948, Lela returned to Eagle Valley to marry Grant Shold. They lived on the Shold ranch and raised 3 children, Steven, Nancy & Janice.
Lela was a beloved resident of Eagle Valley for over 90 years. In addition to being an active member of the Richland Christian Church & member of the Eagle Valley Grange, she also hosted many guests at her home and was the first to welcome new and returning residents to the valley. She made wedding cakes and gifted many cherished quilts, and crocheted thousands of scrubbies which were highly valued by all who received them. Lela won many awards for her canning, baking & flowers at the County fair including Grand Champion one year. She hosted dinners & planned retreats and was still driving at 97 and still enjoyed baking and beating her friends at games. Most importantly, Lela was a deeply loving and committed prayer-warrior for everyone she knew.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Grant and son-in-law Gary McReynolds as well as by eight siblings. She is survived by sisters Mary, Velma & Fern; son Steven and his wife Millie of Richland Oregon and Baja Mexico; daughter Nancy Schmier & her husband Rod of Nampa Idaho; and daughter Janice and her husband Mike Kindall of Boise, Idaho.
