LeRoy Paul Valentine, 87, a long time resident of Baker City, Oregon died Tuesday September 19, 2023 at his home. At Roy's request there will be no memorial service.
Mr. Valentine was born December 23, 1935 at Baker City to Leonard and Lola Morin Valentine. He was the youngest of eight children.
He married Gayle "Pat" Valentine on June 29, 1962 in Weiser, Idaho. They were married for 61 years and were blessed with 2 children in 1966 and 1967.
Roy spent his early years working in the timber industry and in road construction with local 701 Operating Engineers. He was very comfortable in the seat of a piece of heavy equipment, but he was also a true entrepreneur. Later in life, he added an excavation business and a mining company with numbers of mining properties. Later, he took his love of heavy equipment operation and gold mining and built the Oregon Trail RV Park and Blue Bucket Gold diggings that is at the Lookout mountain exit on I84 where he and his wife hosted gold digs throughout the year.
Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all things outdoors. He looked forward to every hunting season with his daughter Kim, nephews, and any other family or friends that wanted to join. He was also well known for his love of car racing where he donated several championship trophies to the local business owners in Baker City that sponsored him.
Roy was described by family as larger than life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a very entertaining storyteller of times shared. His most loved times were times spent with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews sharing the memories and making new ones. He and his family were exceptionally thankful for the continued laughs and stories that he shared with Sebastian Cole while receiving such good care from him.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle "Pat" Valentine; his children Kim Valentine of Hines, Oregon, Patricia and Patrick King of Pendleton; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The family would appreciate any memorial contributions, in Memory of Roy, to be sent to Heart n' Home Hospice (Baker City) for their exceptional staff service and care through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, PO BOX 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
