Kathryn "Kathy" Doud Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" Doud, 80, of Baker City, passed away on December 1, 2024 at her home. A celebration of her life will be held on May 24, 2025, at the Agape Church in Baker City, Oregon, at 11:00 A.M.

On August 29, 1944, Francis Armon and Myrtle Weaver Armon received their greatest wedding anniversary gift when they welcomed their daughter Kathryn Ranee Armon into the family.
Kathryn (Kathy) joined her three older siblings Lonnie, Lowell and Mary. Little brother Dallas would complete the family two years later.

Kathy and her siblings grew up in the lovely town of Wallowa, Oregon. Her family did not have an abundance of money, but they worked hard and had everything they needed. For entertainment, Kathy’s parents, aunts, uncles and cousins would gather at the Armon homestead and play music until all hours of the night, eating delicious homemade dishes and dancing to exhaustion. It’s no surprise that with a bounty of talented relatives, Kathy and Mary had the gift of song and would often sing duets at church and local events. They were members of a Christian singing group called The Six Sisters and received 3rd place in a state singing revival.

As you can imagine, Kathy and her sister Mary were best friends, but they were not two peas in a pod. Mary loved to spend her extra time reading books, but Kathy was a tomboy. With the splendid Wallowa Mountains as their playground, Kathy and brother Dallas would spend their days hunting and fishing. She loved to catch frogs, tear open owl pellets and cool off in the Wallowa River on steamy summer days.

Kathy graduated from Wallowa High School in 1963. Two years later, on January 29, 1965, Kathy married her first love Darald Wayne Doud, a red head with a heart of gold. The young couple moved to California and on December 29, 1965, they welcomed their first child Mark Wayne Doud. Mark was soon joined by his little sister Angela Marie Doud on November 15, 1966.

The couple moved back to Oregon and eventually settled in Baker City where they purchased a lovely home on Pocahontas Road. They raised their family in this home and added a few sheep and mules in for some fun. It is no surprise that Kathy and Darald spent their free time hunting and fishing, and would go visit her beloved Wallowa as often as they could. When Darald retired in the 90’s, the couple sold their home, bought a camper, and spent nearly a decade traveling and enjoying their autumn of life.

They became weary of traveling and heartstrings pulled the couple back to Baker City. They purchased one of the oldest and smallest houses in town which must have seemed like a mansion after living in a camper for those years! It was shortly after this that Darald was diagnosed with cancer and lost his battle on March 8, 2002. This was a very difficult time for Kathy and she missed her partner of 37 years with a great intensity. But God is good, and He sent her Clayton Young who would become Kathy’s second love. They spent 10 wonderful years together and Clayton treated her like a queen. Sadly, Clayton was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2013. Kathy lost her two loves but did not lose her love for life. She enjoyed her last years visiting with her family, friends and church community. This support system helped her during the loss of her grandson, Matthew Wayne Doud in 2019.

Despite her many losses, she was never alone. Kathy and Mary spent many dreamy days together lying in bed reading books, smoking cigarettes on the porch and laughing and reminiscing. The sisters loved dressing up for the annual trunk or treat with their best ensembles being Granny Oakley and Calamity Jane one year, and Dawg the Bounty Hunter and his wife Beth another year.

Kathy lost Mary on August 29, 2021. It was Kathy’s 77th birthday and the two sisters were sleeping side by side when Kathy woke up, but Mary did not.
Our beautiful Kathryn Ranee Armon Doud, left us on December 1, 2024. She passed away in her home while sleeping peacefully, just as her sister Mary had done. Words can’t describe how empty it is without her. She was kind, thoughtful and a bit sassy, and had enchanting blue eyes that twinkled when she laughed. She was only on this earth 80 short years, but she made a great impact on those who loved her.
