Joseph Leroy Scelson, 57, born on January 18,1966, passed away in Boise Idaho at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center on June 25, 2023 with the love of his life and his family by his side, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy.
Joseph was born in Denver, Colorado to Loretta Ann (Krantz) Weber, and was raised in Commerce City, Colorado until his family moved to Baker City, Oregon in 1975. As a youngster Joe participated in Cub Scouts and caused as much mischief as possible. In high school, Joe and his twin brother James participated in Special Olympics and made their way to Moscow, Idaho to participate in the national finals for wrestling, accompanied by their brother John. Upon their return Joe Graduated from Baker High School in 1985.
Joe moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1987 after the birth of his niece Amber, who he called his "little liebchen" (sweetheart). Joe worked at Bob’s Diner and coached T-Ball for the youth of the community; Joe would do anything to help and watch his niece grow up.
After his twin's passing, Joe moved back to Baker City where he worked at Tasty Bake, became a manager at Burger King, and finished his career at Golden Crown Chinese restaurant. Joe met the love of his life, Lisa Nichols, in 2012 on a blind date and the two shared every moment together, even traveling cross country to meet Lisa's mom. The two learned to cook together, which Joe was proud of. Joe loved spending time with his dog Roxy, playing baseball, fishing, camping, playing computer games, coloring, and always finding a way to make people smile. He loved the color blue and his favorite teams were the Denver Broncos and the Oregon Ducks.
Over the years Joe made all his friends, his family. He won the hearts of all who came in contact with him and claimed so many as his bonus children including Chantel, Promise, Jozie and Douglas to name a few. He was so proud to become a grandpa and loved hearing little Riley learning to say Grandpa Joe; he always beamed with pride hearing him try. Joe’s love, kindness, and infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
Joe was preceded in death by his dog Roxy, his Brother James Leroy Scelson and his mother Loretta Ann Weber. He was survived in death by his Father Richard Weber, Brother John Scelson, Sister Tina Weber, Niece Amber Scelson, Aunt Shirley Keiper, Uncle Jimi Keiper and love of his life Lisa Nichols, numerous cousins, bonus children and grandchild, and so many many friends as Joe considered everyone family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date (time & place) to be announced. For those who would like to make a memorial donation in memory of Joe, the family has asked they be made to Baker City Special Olympics or Saint Jude Hospital for Children through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834.
