Jean Day Obituary

Jean Cordelia (Osborn) Day, of Baker City, passed away on April 22, 2024.

Jean was born in Long Beach, California. She was the daughter of Lois (Person) and George Osborn. Jean was the sister to younger brothers, David (deceased) and Robert Osborn. Jean graduated from Anoakia High School, Arcadia, California. She met her husband, Frank Ronald Day (Ron) in Southern California and the two were married in Jean’s family home in La Jolla, California.

Jean and Ron raised three daughters, Darbie (Day) Whitbread, Nancy (Day) Greer, Carrie (Day) Swanson. Jean and Ron were great believers in an oral education for their daughter, Darbie, and were both very involved in the John Tracy Center (CA) and The Tucker Maxon School for the Deaf (OR). Whether it be watching Carrie play basketball, volleyball or volunteering as leaders for Nancy’s 4-H group, Jean and Ron were active, supportive parents.

After raising their three daughters, Jean worked as librarian in Echo and Pendleton. She also worked with the Head Start program in Pendleton.

Jean and Ron retired to Keating. After Ron’s death in 2007, Jean moved to Baker City. Jean volunteered as an elementary school reader and at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

Jean’s greatest joy was her family. In addition to their three daughters, she loved her son-in-laws (Derek Whitbread, Jeff Swanson and Bruce Greer), her seven grandchildren (Jamie (Swanson) Kaesemeyer, Jesse Swanson, Trevor Whitbread, Landon Whitbread, Gordon Greer, Fletcher Greer, Genevieve Greer), their spouses and her six great grandchildren.   Jean will be forever remembered as a loving Mom, Grandma and beloved “GG.”

At Jean’s request, a small family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
