Janet (Jan) Elaine Phillips, 73, of Baker City, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on August 28, 2024. She was surrounded by love in her final days and lived a very happy life. She is going to be greatly missed. No services are planned at this time.
Jan was born September 1, 1950 to Norman and Vivian Anderson in Tillamook, Oregon. Jan attended primary and high school in Tillamook and then pursued a physical education degree at Oregon State University graduating in 1972. During her time at OSU, she met Daniel Phillips who she married in June 1972. They moved to Baker City after graduating college where they raised a family, welcoming daughter Adrienne (Adie) in 1975 and Geoffrey (Geoff) in 1978.
Jan was the best mom anyone could ever ask for and she made a difference in the lives of many young people, whether teaching them to swim or supporting their sporting endeavors with much enthusiasm.
Jan loved her garden and farm and had one of the greenest thumbs a person could have. Many people were fed by her lovingly raised veggies. She was also a talented quilter and made beautiful creations her family will cherish for many years to come.
Jan is survived by daughter Adie Phillips (Karl Swingle) of Bozeman, MT, son Geoff Phillips (Haley Phillips) of Baker City, her brother Bruce Anderson (Katherine MacPherson) of Chester Basin, Nova Scotia and Honolulu, Hawaii, her sister-in law Becky Anderson of Issaquah, Washington, sister-in laws Terri Axness (Dennis Axness) of Baker City and Debbie Day (Chuck Day) of Austin, TX as well as many other family members including all her nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She also had great friends who she cared about.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband Dan Phillips, father and mother Norman and Vivian Anderson, step-mother Millie Anderson, brother Don Anderson and some very special furry pets that were so well loved.
If you would like to remember Jan, please spend some time in a garden, go on a walk in the woods, spend time with a loved one (that includes humans or pets!) and think of her. She would like that. In lieu of flowers, please support the Baker Sports Complex and Best Friends of Baker through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, PO Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
