Obituary

Faye Annette Bergman

July 27, 1941 – June 9, 2022

Born in Vinita, OK as Fay Annette Bloyed to Iva Jane and Vernie Bloyed. Fay decided the common spelling for her name was just to plain and boring, so she decided to change the spelling to FAYE!

Faye was raised in Gustine, California, where she graduated from Gustine High School in June 9th, 1959.  She lived in Gustine where she met Gail Bergman on a blind date and they were married July 26, 1959.  The couple settled in Hilmar and started their family that would come to include their 5 children.  In 1972 the family moved to Halfway, Oregon where she resided until her passing.

During her life Faye worked a variety of jobs while being a wife and mother.  Her last job that she retired from was as a custodian for Pine Eagle School District.  While working at the high school, she enjoyed decorating the school lobby fireplace for EVERY Holiday.  She also enjoyed taking tickets at the many sporting events at the high school where she could watch the games and matches and cheer for the Pine Eagle Spartans.

Faye also volunteered at Jacobs Dream where she enjoyed socializing with the customers and many times would work a “double shift” and stay and chat with her favorite co-workers.

Faye enjoyed getting together with the “Ladies Who Lunch” at the Senior Lunch held at the elementary school, Wild Bills and The Main place.

Faye and her good friend Shirley Barrett also frequented the VFW Hall with the other locals for bingo night hoping to win big.

Faye enjoyed crafting, sewing, cooking, baking and canning.  Faye bravely entered her famous zucchini with roasted red pepper relish in the Zucchini Fest of 2007.  She enjoyed sharing this relish with friends and family which inspired one family friend to ask for and began making Faye’s recipe so he would never run out!  Her grandma’s cake and potato salad were frequently requested at gatherings.  And Gail LOVED her fried chicken!

She liked having house plants and tending to her rock garden at the ranch.

Her favorite family outing while in California was to go to the beach.  When in Halfway she enjoyed family picnics at Ballard Creek.

She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and had many feeders she tended to out at the ranch.  So much so that her loving Grandson Dion placed the feeders by her kitchen window on pullies so she could lower and raise them and not need a step ladder to fill them.

On quiet days Faye would watch the Hallmark Channel for hours….  But who is not a sucker for a good love story??

Faye loved the color red although blue was a strong second.

Oh and she loved Elvis!

Faye was an active member of the Grange and enjoyed the friendship and comradery helping with all the events.

Faye and Gail were known for their hospitality and kindness throughout their life.  All who entered their home felt welcome, many felt embraced as a member of the family.

Faye is survived by her children and their partners; Lori and Gene Landers of Richland, OR; Lisa Breshears of  La Grande,  OR; James Bergman and Patricia Kelley of Halfway, OR, Sheila and Michael Phelps of  Elgin, OR and

Sonya Bergman of La Grande, OR; 5 Grandchildren: Jason Landers, Shawn Landers, Dion Bergman, Bryce Bergman, Keeri Yeates, Kayla Phelps; 13 Greatgrandchildren: Alyssa, Liam, Andrew, Ellarose, Presley, Anora, Sasha, Austin, Zach, Caleb, Hailey, Mikhail, Vanessa, Kayla, Taesey; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; Faye’s siblings Hazel Dean, Tommy Jack, Shirley Ann, Edward Anthony
