Ernest "Ernie" Metcalf Obituary

Ernest "Ernie" Metcalf, 80, of Baker City, died Monday, February, 11, 2020 at home with his family at his side.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020~ 1:30 p.m. at the Baker City Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Ernie was born December 19, 1939 in Kelso, Washington to parents Harold and Estella Metcalf. He was raised and educated in Alsea, Oregon.

May 13, 1961 Ernie married his wife Donna Strebe whom he met in Cottage Grove, Oregon.  They spent the majority of their lives together in the Willamette Valley, Central Oregon, until they eventually moved to Baker City in 2006.

Ernie spent his working career in the Wood products industry until he retired in 1996 when the plant permanently shut down. 

After retiring he enjoyed talking to people all over the world on his Ham radio, building his own computers, as well as restoring a 1965 Ford Galaxie two door hardtop classic car. Ernie's most memorable dates in his life included his baptism in 1959, his marriage to Donna and the births of his two children.

Ernie was a devout Jehovah’s Witness for 61 years.  He will be remembered for being very loyal to his God, his family and his friends, and for doing his best to bring hope to as many people as he could. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Dave and sister Linda.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna Metcalf; son Don Metcalf and daughter Yieda Metcalf.
