Elbert John "Butch" Myers Obituary

Elbert (Butch) Myers went to be with Our Lord on Feb. 5, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held at the Burnt River Community Church in Unity, OR, on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 1 pm with an Interment at the Unity Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception to be held following the interment, at the Burnt River  Community Church.

Butch was born on June 10, 1949 to Anna and Orel Myers in Ontario, OR. He was the youngest of 4 children. For most of Butch’s life he was a logger. After many years as a logger,  he decided to buy a log truck and haul logs instead of falling them. Simultaneously, he and his wife Jonda became “dorm parents” for exchange students attending Burnt River schools.

Later in life, Butch decided to leave the logging world behind and took a job at Snake River Correctional Institution as a security guard in Ontario, OR. He and Jonda left the Unity area and ended up in Huntington, OR, to become “dorm parents” once again for the exchange students attending school in Huntington. Butch and Jonda loved the everything outdoors, from mushroom picking, to hunting, to fishing. However, fishing is what Butch loved the most and many a day he could be found fishing on the Snake River. He and Jonda especially loved to crappie fish. The day Jonda passed, not only did he lose the love of his life, but his best fishing partner. Shortly after Jonda’s passing, Butch was diagnosed with cancer himself.

After a couple of years of treatment, the cancer went into remission. Sadly, in the fall of 2023, the cancer had returned. The family would like to give a very special thank you to Jay Moore for
opening up his home and allowing our father to live out his final days. We cannot thank Jay enough. We would also like to thank Horizons Home Health and Hospice for the great care you gave to our dad.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jonda; parents Anna Shaw & Orel Myers; sibling Carol Gaddis; great grandson Kodin Johnston. Butch is survived by his children, Tanna (Mike) Korn, Robert (Melissa) Myers, Jason (Charlene) Myers, Brandy (Steve) Rollins; siblings Kenny (Stella) Myers, Barbara (Larry) Broughton, plus many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Burnt River Fire and EMS (Unity) through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PO Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834. Online condolences can be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
