Edward George Nichols was born on June 6, 1936 in Roseburg, OR. He moved to Baker in 1950. Ed attended Baker High school and graduated with the class of 1954.
Ed met Sherry McCord through his high school friend Donna. They married in Haines, OR in 1957. They were sealed for time and all eternity to their children in 1966. They had six children, two passed in infancy.
Ed worked for Ash Grove Cement for 43 years until he retired.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoors, tinkering with things and mechanicing. His life philosophy was “I just go with the flow” or “I read it in Readers Digest.” A favorite poem was the Cremation of Sam McGee.
Ed was most proud of raising an amazing family. Family first and treat everyone like you would want to be treated.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Elva Nichols; brothers Clarence Leslie Nichols and Terry Nichols; sister Rowena Nichols
Ed is survived by his wife Sherry Nichols; daughters-Marquetta Lundell, Lorrie and Kenny Foxx, Melanie and Ed Trindle; sons Rick Nichols and his companion Brandy L’Roy; brother Frank E. Nichols JR.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; Best Friends-Richard Child & Dwight Berglund
Our dad had the deepest love of God and an amazing faith and testimony of Jesus Christ. When one of his children was participating in bicycle racing or music competitions or sporting events he would be there cheering us all on. Then when grandkids came along he rarely missed a Baker Bulldog football or baseball game. He was absolutely the best “pappy”, daddy and friend anyone could ever ask for.
For those who would like to make a memorial donation in memory of Ed, the family suggests the Haines Museum through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Services PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834. Online condolences may be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
