Dennis "Denny" Thacker

Dennis Thacker, 82, of Baker City, OR. died on August 8, 2023 at Sunset Estates Assisted Living in Ontario, Oregon.

Dennis was born on March 16, 1941 in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he was raised and educated.  He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1958.

Following High School, Dennis enlisted into the United States Army, where he worked as a refrigeration mechanic.  He was honorably discharged in 1965.

Following the service, he took a job with Transcon Trucking Company whom he worked for throughout his career.  He was transferred to Portland, OR and then to Baker City, OR where he enjoyed living there for over 40 years.

Dennis loved history and was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye Fan.  His greatest passion was sports of every kind.  He enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Dennis was an active and passionate past President of the Eagles Club. He was also an active member of the VFW.

Dennis enjoyed 34 wonderful years with his special significant other Claudine Prowell of Baker City until her passing in 2014.

Dennis loved people and if you ever met him, you would never forget him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Bernice Thacker; brother Donald Thacker; sister Lorraine Brion all of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dennis is survived by his sisters Linda Hunter, Debra Sorensen, and Cathy Scarborough all of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Patricia Carter of Wichita Kansas; many friends and family.
