David Huff Obituary

David S. Huff, 81, of Emmett, Idaho passed away on January 7, 2024, in his home. A Celebration of Dave's Life and potluck will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 - 2:00 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Halfway, Oregon.

Dave was born at home on October 2, 1942, to James Franklin and Dorothy Irene (Stickney) Huff, delivered by Dr. Earnest Faus, Halfway’s resident doctor of that era.

He joined his two sisters, Janice and Carol Lee, growing up on the family farm where he spent the first
20 years of his life.  Dave graduated from Halfway High School in 1960, where he lettered in all sports. He remained an avid
sports fan all his life.

After he graduated from high school, Dave attended Eastern Oregon College for a semester, then enlisted in the Air Force for six years (the last two in the reserves). In 1966, Dave was sent to Da Nang, Vietnam for a year and upon returning was stationed at George Air Force Base, California, for his last
year of service. While in the service, stationed at Holloman AFB, Alamogordo, NM, Dave met Lorraine through friends at a local bull riding jackpot. They became a couple and married in June 1965.

After his enlistment was completed, they moved to St Louis, Missouri where Dave continued to work on the McDonald Douglas Aircraft he was trained on in the military. He started on the flight line and eventually moved into the corporate area of the company. While in Missouri, two daughters, Cheryl and Julie, were born to Dave and Lorraine.

In 1974 the family returned to Pine Valley to make their home. In 1977 Dave went to work for the Idaho Power Company, where he retired in 2002.
Always having a competitive spirit and a love for being around folks, Dave discovered a passion for team roping and a desire to better the Pine Valley Fairgrounds arena, spending many hours there doing whatever was necessary to make the events a success. Participating in getting the arena lights installed
gave him so much satisfaction.

After retirement, in 2005 he decided to move to the Boise area where his daughters and their families lived. His grandchildren were now school age and he wanted to be present to root and encourage his grandchildren in every one of their sports events. And he did! He was so proud of the adults they have
become.  He continued with his team roping for as long as he was able and was still throwing the rope at his steer head even last summer. We’re quite confident he is still throwing that rope today!

It was with great sadness his family gathered around him to say our goodbyes. He loved us well and we know, without doubt, we will see him again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy; sisters Janice and Carol Lee, and younger brother Glenn; his grandparents Homer and Geneva Chastain; his uncle Bob Chastain and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dave is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughter Cheryl Niemeyer (Mark Niemeyer) of Middleton, Idaho and daughter Julie Huff of Emmett, Idaho; Grandchildren Justin Niemeyer (Kelsi Myers) and Halley Holmes (Riley Holmes). Great grandchildren Payslee and Oaklee Myers and Rayleigh Brynn Niemeyer.
