Curtis Otto Komning
January 25, 1930 — February 25. 2023
Curtis Otto Komning, 93, passed away on Saturday, February 25 at his home in Canyon City,
Oregon.

Curtis was born to Otto and Eva Komning on January 25, 1930 in Portland, The family lived in
Dutch Canyon on a farm near Scappoose. While growing up he helped with the family business
of running the lumber mill and dairy farming. He loved to take off by himself to drive his
Model T Ford and roam the hills. In 1950, right out of high school, he served three years in the
U.S. Navy.

Curls and Edi (Pillster) met on her 19th birthday on a blind date and married on November 1,
1953. Two children. Daniel Curtis and David Edward, were born to the family.

Curtis was always looking for ways to help others. He also spent many hours helping to build
the Nazarene Church in John Day. Whatever he took on he did with much enthusiasm and skill.
He most enjoyed his family. His hobbies included hard rock mining. Many hours were spent on
Little Canyon Mountain working his mine.

He leaves behind his wife, Edie, his son Dan of Mount Vernon, OR, his son David of Lebanon,
OR, and his sister Joan Walter of Boise, ID.

Curtis was so proud of his large family who lived close enough to see him weekly. Curtis has
four grandchildren: LeAnn Coalwell, Alesa Molyneux, Danny Komning, Abbie Mobley, and 13
great-grandchildren.
