Clarice Johnson, 73, of Enterprise, Oregon died on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise, Oregon surrounded by her family.
Clarice Louise (Huff) Johnson was born on October 17, 1950 in Baker City, Oregon. She was raised and educated in Baker City, graduating from Baker High School in 1968. Clarice met David Wayne Johnson when she was 14 and Dave was 16 in Halfway, Oregon when Clarice was spending the summer with her Aunt and Uncle Bill and Ann Wize. They married on January 17, 1970.
Clarice worked at Carol’s Kitchen in Grass Valley, OR as a cook/waitress when her kids were young. She then started an in-home day care. She did daycare until she and Dave became missionaries with World Venture in 1990. Clarice and Dave raised their kids in Grass Valley until 1991 when they moved to Ivory Coast, West Africa. Dave taught all the sciences at ICA – a boarding school for missionary kids. Clarice had multiple positions to support Dave, their kids, and the other missionaries at the school. They lived in West Africa until 2000 when they moved to Meridian, Idaho; in 2003 to Nampa, Idaho and then in 2004 made her home in Enterprise, Oregon.
Clarice was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1997. She eventually began using a walker with a seat. One of the things she enjoyed so much was pushing her grandchildren around on it.
Clarice loved to bake. She made beautiful wedding cakes and she made dozens and dozens of donuts that Dave took to school with him regularly. Clarice also loved crafts. Once she moved to Enterprise Clarice started scrapbooking and quilting. One of her greatest joys over the last couple years was flowers. Any type of flower would make her day, but her favorite, forever, was roses. She loved her rose bushes.
Clarice had a constant companion named Lucy. Lucy was a wire-haired terrier that slept on her lap all day. Clarice was a woman so full of love and happiness. She had many physical struggles due to the MS but she never got angry about them, she was always positive. Her favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord”. She lived this. She knew God loved her and she loved him with her whole heart and she knew where she was going when she passed.
One of Clarice’s greatest accomplishments was her family. She and Dave had two children; Wayne Warren and Jennifer Kay. Wayne is married to Eva Johnson and lives in Culver, OR with their children. Jeny is married to Ed Charlton and lives in Enterprise with their children.
Clarice would like to be remembered as a loving caring woman who was so sweet to be around.
