over the country. Charlie’s favorite though was living in Hawaii for 5 years before Hawaii became a
state. He was the second child of 5. One sister and 3 brothers. The family finally settled in Portland,
Oregon in 1959. Charlie attended Centennial High School. He left home at 16, worked at McDonalds

successful construction sub-contracting business for 35 years in the Portland Metro area. It was called
Superior Sub-Flooring. That’s how Charlie became known as Chipboard Charlie.
Charlie and Jacquie began visiting the Hells Canyon Area in the late 1980’s, fell in love with it and was
determined to retire there. They bought a fifth wheel and planted in the Sportsman Park a couple of
miles from Oxbow Dam and all vacations were taken there from then on. Charlie bought the Hells
Canyon Store in 2001 and operated it until 2010.
Charlie had 4 children total, 2 by a first marriage, Wendy of Florida and Jodi of Zig Zag, OR. 2 children by
his marriage with Jacquie. Adam of Halfway, OR and Eveonne of LaGrande, OR.
Charlie has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clay and Virgina Harper, his brother James, William and sister
