Cathy Crapo, 70, died at her home in Richland, Oregon on February 20, 2023. Per Cathy’s request there will not be a service.
Cathy Louise was born on June 30, 1952 in San Rafael, California to Arthur and Audrey (Oberding) Newton. She was raised by her mother and step father Joe Teixeira in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended school there. She married David Zahniser and together they had two daughters Jacque and Cary. They divorced and she moved to La Grande.
While in La Grande, she met and married Rolly Paulson and they blended her daughters with his two sons, Ryan and Travis. They owned and operated “Rolly’s Tavern.” They divorced.
In 1999, she met Ray Crapo. They married in 2001 in Reno, Nevada. and made their home in La Grande. Cathy worked for the La Grande Library for 19 years until her retirement. In 2009, they bought their home in Richland, Oregon. In 2020, they moved to Richland full time, following Ray’s retirement.
Cathy was an avid reader, loved to garden, decorating her house and enjoyed taking walks with her cocker spaniel “Blaze.” She was very proud of winning grand champion in floral at the Baker County Fair in 2021. Cathy loved to cook and had a bookshelf (shelves) of cookbooks.
She was preceded in death by her father Arthur Newton and step-father Joe Teixeira.
Cathy is survived by her husband Ray, Daughters Jacque Zahniser, Cary Summerlin and husband Jody; Stepsons Ryan and Travis Paulson; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; mother Audrey Gross of La Grande, Oregon; sister Judy Goldstein of La Grande, Oregon; brothers Bud Newton and his wife Sheri of La Grande, Or, Ron Newton and his wife Kim of Lincoln City, OR; numerous nieces and nephews.
