Berniece Osborn Obituary

Berniece Osborn, 99, of Baker City, died at her home on Friday, October 18, 2019.   A Celebration of Bernice’s Life, will be held during the Senior Meal at the Community Connection Senior Center in Baker City, on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m. Wear your favorite hat in honor of her if you’d like.

Lua Berniece Osborn was born on August 27, 1920 in Prosser, Nebraska.  She married C.D. Goodman and had seven children.  On January 12, 1971 Berniece married John L. Osborn.  Berniece lived in Baker City for 65 years and for many years she worked for Safeway.

Her favorite color was red.  She loved to get out and garden; she enjoyed roses, cactus and anything that bloomed.   Berniece liked to watch Oregon and Oklahoma football and her favorite baseball team was the Mariners.

Berniece belonged to the Elks with her husband John.  She loved to dance whether it be at the Elks, the Senior Center or any place that had music.  She loved playing pinochle with all her lady friends.  Favorite phrases to her seven children included “Do it right the first time and you will never have to do it over again,” “Can’t never did a thing,” “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”  Berniece loved traveling with family, spending time in her cabin on Olive Creek, reading and crocheting many doilies and afghans.

Berniece was very proud of her large family.  She loved getting phone calls and texting with family.  She had a joyful personality and a “Love of Life.”  Known as the “Hat Lady”  she kept everyone guessing which hat she was going to wear.

A unique moment in Berniece’s life was when she served John F. Kennedy at the Pastime Bar/Restaurant before he became president.  She had no clue who he was until he was elected.

She was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Violet Goble; husband of 26 years John Osborn, husband of children C.D. Goodman, sons George Goodman  and Dennis Goodman; and five brothers.

Berniece is survived by her daughters Eddy D. Beck, Lua Berniece Bird (Tom), Glynda M. Anderson(Bill), Shielah Reeder; sons Chuck Goodman (Beth) Don Goodman (Diana); daughter in law Carolyn; grandchildren and great grandchildren - too numerous to count and she loved every one of them; one brother Robert(Patty); numerous nieces and nephews.
