Barbara Hinkle, 78, of La Grande, died on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Bullock's Country Care Adult Foster Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in La Grande, Oregon.
Barbara Ordell Hinkle was born on December 9, 1944 in Long Beach California to Robert and Joyce (Merritt) Bassett. She was raised in Norwalk, California, the family then moving to South Dakota in 1957 where her Dad owned and managed Bob’s Texaco in Humboldt.
Barbara married David L. Hinkle on January 14, 1966. They met when they were neighbors as children in Norwalk, California. Together they had three daughters. They made their first home in Orange, California before moving to Pocatello, Idaho in 1976 to 1999. During the girls school years, she enjoyed volunteering at their schools.
She worked for years in customer service at J.C. Penny’s. She loved dogs and was especially fond of her own dogs Hope, Sassy and Reggie. She had a love of the bible and would spend many hours reading the bible and sharing her knowledge with others. Barbara loved to travel; favorites being a cruise through the Panama Canal and to Czeck Republic and Austria.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Bassett, Joyce and Lloyd Simmons and sister Wanda Ellinger.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Doreen and husband Clayton Dobyns of La Grande, Oregon, Darlene and husband Glenn Rohlik of Vesta, Minnesota, Deborah Hinkle of Henderson, Nevada; brother Robert Bassett Jr. and wife Francie; brother in law Steve Ellinger; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren
