Aletta Tunnell, 88, passed away on December 13, 2023 with family present at her home in Halfway, Oregon.
Aletta was born on June 11,1935 to James G. And Mabel (Wise) Simpson in Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her son Glen, husband Art, parents, brother Joe Simpson, sisters Marie Gann, Audrey Holland, Lenora Garner, and Rowena Yates .
She was raised in Oklahoma on her parent’s farm when at the age of 16 she married her husband Art in Arkansas on December 29, 1951. They moved to Salem, Oregon to start their new life together where Art’s parents, siblings Betty (Tunnell) Robinson, Ray Tunnell lived.
Feeling the encroaching growth of the city Art and Aletta decided to leave Salem and found a home in Halfway, Or. where Art worked on a ranch and she was a stay-at-home mom.
Aletta had a strong “git it done yourself “attitude, and enjoyed doing her garden and keeping the yard and house in shape. Both she and Art enjoyed driving and site seeing in the country. They both shared the love of music, Aletta would play rhythm on the guitar accompanying Art, or she played the steel guitar.
Aletta is survived by her daughter Gail Tunnell of McMinnville, Or., son Jerry and Alice Tunnell of Halfway, Or., five grandkids and nine great grandkids.
Aletta requested to be cremated with no services, in lieu of flowers consider donations to the Heart and Home Hospice through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Services PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834. Online condolences may be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com.
