Shirley Keating Obituary

Shirley Ann Keating, 79, formerly of Halfway, Oregon died at her home in Elgin, Oregon with her family at her side on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

Shirley was born in the Mid West on March 2, 1939 as Shirley Ann Wymer.   She married John Keating.  Together they started a life together and had three children; daughter Linda followed by son William, and then son John.  The family made their home in Northern California.

The family relocated to Halfway, Oregon in the early 1970’s to find a new life. Linda, William, and John grew up and started families of their own. Shirley and John received many Grand Children and Great Grand Children who love them.

Shirley and John started a Group Home in Richland for young men in the 1980’s. Many young men came to them and were sheltered. Many of the young men’s lives were changed by the time they spent with Shirley.  Two of the young men were with Shirley during her passing.

Shirley loved to fish. And oh how could she fish. Out fished us all. We are planning a celebration of life for Shirley on June 15, 2019 at Copper Field Park at Oxbow for the week. We’re going to drop our lines off of the bridge in honor of Shirley, so mark your calendar.

We have left all the names of Shirley’s surviving love ones out of this obituary. You are all loved and remembered.   Shirley wanted this to be simple.

"I (Troy-son-in-law) had the honor to have provided care to Shirley the last three weeks of her life with the help of Hospice. In the end she looked at me with her steely blue eyes and told me I was a good man. Those gorgeous blue eyes holding on to life. That is how I will remember Shirley. Those gorgeous blue eyes and that left eyebrow that elevated in times of disapproval.  Travel safe Shirley Ann Keating."
