Marlene Joan Fujii passed away from complications due to lymphoma of the lungs on December 19, 2019 at Meadowbrook Place in Baker City, Oregon.
Joan was born April 24, 1933 to Robert Claude McCoy and Eunice Vera Weaver McCoy in Oroville, California. She was the oldest of 3 girls with one older brother, Dan. She attended grade school in Grants Pass, Oregon and graduated high school in Monmouth, Oregon.
In 1951, Joan married Louis Townsend. She had 4 sons, Raymond, Doug, Dean and Paul. She enjoyed teaching the boys and watching them learn new things. Joan lived in Oregon, Hawaii, Virginia, and Germany for 11 years with her 2nd husband Alan Fujii. Some of her favorite times were the years she spent in Germany. After her husband retired from the Army, they made their home in Corvallis, Oregon.
During her life Joan worked a variety of jobs which included working at a dry cleaners while in high school, at a florist in Germany, and at Albertsons in Corvallis. She enjoyed long walks by the river, her small garden, and lots of reading. Joan’s cats were so much a part of her family, and she went above and beyond for them.
Joan is survived by her sons Raymond Townsend of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Doug Townsend, Paul and Debbie Townsend of Baker City, Oregon; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother Dan and Darlene Skeels of Bend, Oregon; sister Eleanor Winchester of Salem, Oregon; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alan; sister Lyndelle McCoy; son Dean and a niece Kelly Eaton.
