Marilyn Hutton, 88, died Friday, January 12, 2018 at St.Lukes Medical Center in Boise, Idaho with her family by her side. A Traditional Funeral Service will be held at the Methodist Church in Baker City, Oregon on February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family back at the church for a reception following the interment.

Marilyn was born February 18, 1929 in Fresno, California and was the daughter of Gladys and Clarence Henderson. She was the “head yell queen” at Baker High School where she graduated in 1947.

Following graduation, she attended Beauty College in Fresno, California. Upon completion, she returned home to Baker City, where she worked at JC Penny until she was married. It was then that her profession transpired into a rancher’s wife and homemaker.

Marilyn met the love of her life, Duane Hutton, at the Old Covered Wagon Dance Hall on Old HWY 30, which, consequently, burned down on the that same night. After the dance, Marilyn ran home to tell her mom she finally met the man she wanted to marry. Duane and Marilyn were married June 4, 1949 and had two children, Michael and Julie.

Marilyn loved golf. She was named a “Gold Nut Honorary” which was part of Duane’s golf group. She was the President of the Baker County Cowbells for 4 years and a member of the Ladies Golf and Bridge Club. Additionally, she was a member of the local bowling league which went onto State. While at State, she got up, made 3 strikes in a row and totally couldn’t bowl at all after that. Marilyn was also a member of the Elks making her a Lady Elk. Each year, she participated on the Class Reunion Committee for both she and Duane’s classes.

Highlights of Marilyn’s life included marrying her husband Duane and having her children who then had grandchildren and great grandchildren.  It also included when she went on a cruise with Duane to Mexico with the Cattlemen Association and when she followed the NCAA Golf Championships as guest of good friend Danny Brooks who is the head lady’s golf coach at Duke University in North Carolina.

Marilyn’s life philosophy was simply that everyone should love each other. Every day she would ask Duane, “Do you know who loves you”? Family always came first. She will be remembered as a people person who loved everybody and didn’t know a stranger.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Duane Hutton; children Julie Marie Adkinson of Welches, Oregon, Michael Duane and his wife Terri Hutton, of Keating, Oregon; brother Cary Henderson of Stevensville, Montana; sister Clare Howe of Eugene, Oregon; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents Glady’s and Clarence Henderson.
