Lawrence Warren

Lawrence Raymond  Allen Warren was born on March 21, 1940 in Eugene, Oregon to Chester and Jessie Mae (Cowles)Warren. His family moved just three weeks and three days later from Fall Creek Oregon to Prineville Oregon. They later moved to John Day, Oregon where he attended grade school and graduated eighth grade May 30, 1955. They then moved to Halfway, Oregon where he enjoyed playing basketball during High School. He graduated from Pine Eagle High School May 19, 1959.

Lawrence married Sylvia Virginia Stanfill, July 9, 1979, in Reno Nevada, shortly after meeting her at the Eagles were they loved to dance . They moved to Central Oregon where they lived for 54 years and raised their four children, one boy and three girls.

He enlisted at the age of 24 with the Navy out of Seattle, Washington. Lawrence served just under 10 years; 3 years were in Vietnam and he held a Grade rate or rank of EN2/E-5 as well as Diesel Mechanic. His last duty assignment and major command was on the USS HOLLAND (AS32) and he was awarded metals for National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Good conduct second award, Meritorious unit commendation second award and received an Honorable Discharge..

Following the service, he drove truck for Fleagle trucking and logistics and later worked for 10+ years with Ford in Madras and Redmond as a mechanic, which was something he dearly loved.

While growing up, Lawrence enjoyed horseback riding, music and playing his guitar. After becoming an adult his biggest hobby was restoring classic cars. His favorite car was one that he owned and restored with his son Ron Wood. He loved going for drives, hunting with Ron, watching NASCAR, drag racing and his Hot Rod Magazines. His favorite color was red.

During his life, he and Sylvia had two four legged babies, the first was a Brittany Spaniel named Lucky, and the last Ginger who is now 13, and lives in Elgin. Lawrence was a member of the Eagles and The Central Oregon Street Rod Association of Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville.  He retired from Redmond, Oregon Wal-Mart after being employed there for 10+ years.

One of his favorite catchphrases was; "might as well, can't dance!" and "It's too wet to plow now."

He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and all the wonderful memories made. The legacy he held in his heart was his family. Lawrence was South Dakota Sioux Indian and he was sure to let you know. He had recently moved back to Elgin, Oregon to live with his granddaughter Autumn Wood, whom left her job to be home in his time of need till the lord called him home, which was on June 12, 2017.

Lawrence is survived by his children Cindy Wood Marthaller of Central Point, Oregon, Connie and Don Ramage of Christmas Valley, Oregon, Ron Wood of Elgin, Oregon and Kathleen Wood of Elgin Oregon; 6 granddaughters and 3 grandsons; 6 great granddaughters and 13 great grandsons; sister Mickey.
