Earl, a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, was born in 9/11/2004. He was a fluffy little panda of a pup, with pink little paws and the usual puppy breath. Whenever he did something truly horrible and naughty - like eating a couch cushion - my husband would say, ‘he’s not a bad dog, he’s just high spirited!’
He grew into a handsome and loyal young lad and had what we refer to as a continual dog smile. His face always expressed joy and excitement for whatever the day might hold. He was always ready for a run through the woods, a drive in the Jeep with the wind in his face, or a camping adventure with lots of interesting smells, which always included hot dogs over the fire.
Earl was a spectacular show off when playing frisbee. People at the park would stop to watch him leap in the air to make a catch, and he rarely missed. It was his favorite sport.
Earl was later joined by a new pup, Lilly. She never liked frisbee, but herded him throughout the process. We’d throw, he’d catch, and she’d bring him back! She is clearly grieving the loss of her partner in crime. She is barely eating, but has finally stopped pacing, waiting for him to come home.
We were so lucky to have Earl for nearly 15 years. We have many happy memories of his exuberant life. He is greatly missed.
